Not sure why this was, but I'm not arguing.Ĥ. After I dialed it up to my desired high setting, the second mouse cursor disappeared. This was when it was still at the default low resolution setting. Tied to the resolutions, the second time I opened the game, I had two mouse cursors - one would move normally, the other just sat there and quivered. Just open the game, go to options, dial it up to where you want it to be, and it will stay there until you quit again.Ĥ. However, be aware that every time you quit your game, it will by default revert back to the low 800圆00 (or whatever) resolution. I dialed mine up to 2556x1440 and it works just fine and looks really crisp. The default video resolution is something really low like 800圆00, but the graphics can be dialed up to whatever your video card is capable of. I made an "exception" for that game, and it opened just fine after that.ģ. After that, it still wouldn't work because one of my security programs (firewall, defender, Avast, one of those) kept blocking it. I tried re-installing my entire game folder so that it was on my C: drive (boot drive), the same drive where the Steam App resides.
After installing, the game kept crashing my Steam account just as it was trying to open - but I realized I had installed it into my secondary game folder which is on a separate hard drive from my boot drive where the Steam App is also installed. Mine had a few problems to solve first:ġ. You have to log into the sequel (Alice, the Madness Returns), choose which screen name you're playing under, get to the main menu screen - and voila! - the original "American McGee's Alice" is now a choice on the main menu.īut beware - it may not open the first time. the "slot" is still there! Someone just found a way to install the correct files into that "slot" and it will run just fine. That game came with an empty "slot" in the programming for installing the original game, and the first game came with the sequel on some gaming platforms-just not on Steam. I don't see it any longer on Steam, but if you already have it in your library, it should work. The sequel game "Alice, the Madness Returns" is required in PC version. Only the occasional videos are still low-res. The original game had some amazingly surreal graphics to begin with - this makes the whole game accessible.
They're amazing, and they also upgrade some of the splash screens between chapters to completely new images. American McGee's Alice - the original game - I just used the guide shown above to install it on my computer - it runs remarkably well in Windows 10 at 2556x1440 resolution! That article also mentions an artist named omrikoresh who has uploaded a whole set of high-rez textures to update the original game.
